Do I get anxious and lose sleep when I consume anything even slightly scary? Yes I do. Do I also love a good mystery and cruise through a murder book in two days? Also yes. A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder was one of those books that was impossible for me to put down.
Synopsis
Pippa Fitz-Amobi is a senior in high school, and she decides that for her capstone project she will be reinvestigating a famous murder in her town — the murder of Andie Bell by her boyfriend, Sal Singh. Pip’s motivation behind this is that she believes Sal is innocent. She ends up teaming up with Sal’s brother, Ravi, and they work together to find out if there’s a way Sal is innocent.
Pip is bold and unafraid in her investigation. She questions everyone from friends of the victim to a journalist who reported on the case. This leads her to new suspects in town, new information on Andie, and threatening anonymous notes from the real killer.
Once Pip knows someone wants her to stop, she has a decision to make. She can either give up on the case, knowing how much is still unresolved, or she can keep going and risk her own safety.
Thoughts
I really loved this book because it met all my expectations of what a good mystery should be. There were a lot of characters, but it didn’t feel overwhelming. There were multiple leads, but it wasn’t confusing. I also liked it because there were no gory scenes or graphic descriptions. I felt like it could have gone a lot of different ways, which was a good thing because it made the ending less predictable. It was also good because it didn’t leave any loose ends. This book is the first of a series, but it doesn’t end on a cliffhanger. The author put this story together so well that I can confidently say this is one of my favorite murder mystery books, and I definitely want to read the second one.
