I’ve heard good things about this author, so I went to my library to see which books they had by her. This one caught my eye, and I’m really glad I picked it! I read it in a few days. It’s a quick, fun read and made me want to read more books by this author. Keep reading for my review of Party Crasher by Sophie Kinsella!
Synopsis
Effie has always been close with her family. She’s 26 years old and the youngest of three. She and her siblings and parents gather together frequently in the family home they call Greenoaks. Effie is completely shocked when her parents announce their divorce, and shocked again a year and a half later when her dad and his new girlfriend announce they are selling Greenoaks.
Things are different between Effie and her dad since the split, and it doesn’t help that she doesn’t get along with his new girlfriend, Krista. In fact, Krista doesn’t even invite Effie to the house-cooling party — the last gathering at the house she spent her whole childhood in. She receives a last-minute passive aggressive invite from Krista, but decides she still won’t go.
When Effie realizes her beloved Russian Dolls from her childhood are still at the house, she comes up with a plan. She’ll go undercover the night of the party, go in the house unnoticed, retrieve her dolls, and leave. But things don’t go according to plan: from running into her ex and having to ask for his help, to overhearing conversations that raise suspicions about her family members, Effie is in for a much longer night than she originally planned.
Thoughts
This was a fun storyline and the way it was written made it easy to follow and easy to read. A little cheesy in places, but what’s a Chick Lit without that? I think Party Crasher is a great choice for a first book by this author. It was overall just a really enjoyable read.
